Sometimes it is worth it to spoil yourself a little with some good food. Beyond just filling your stomach, food is fun, it lets you bond with old friends and introduces you to some new ones.
To those who have their eyes on their waist lines, there are a number of ways you can take care of that guilt. Here are 2: 1. Pay attention to how your food is prepared. Once in a while have a Baked and steamed option versus fried. 2. Make veggies your friends. That’s what I did with the steak and mushroom pie and the chicken breast with steamed rice when I ate at Kabira country club.
THE STEAK AND MUSHROOM PIE 43k
This dish is great for when you’re hungry.
It doesn’t look filling, does it? But it is. This compact little pie hides what feels like a half kilo of steak and mushrooms. Cut the light brown of the outside to reveal a dark brown tumble.
The cream potatoes are buttery yellow. It reminded me a bit of matooke.
GOOOOD. But good is not a helpful descriptor is it? It was slightly spicy and the tiny addition of red wine brings a richer tatse to the steak and mushrooms. While the steak was well done, it obviously had a different texture from the mushrooms and this was a fun play in the mouth.
I highly recommend this when you just want a meal to fill you up. You will probably not even need a starter or dessert.
Oh! the little curry sauce! Nice and thick and a very excellent pairing with the potatoes.
PAN SEARED CHICKEN BREAST with GARLIC THYME CREAM SAUCE 38k
For when you want something wholesome
Who doesn’t like chicken? This grilled breast is moist and soft and the vegetables and rice, steamed.
It is worth noting that the chef is going out of his way to make healthy dishes and this is one of those that will thrill those who are anti-oil.
You will walk away from this meal feeling satisfied but also light. That is a good feeling.
TOMATO TARTINE 21k
For when your sweet tooth is calling you.
So THIS is how you eat beetroot without its taste overwhelming you? By dicing it and adding lettuce, rocket and raisins? Got it. I love how bright all the food is. But none is brighter than this sweet treat. The red tomatoes, the salad that is sweetened by those little raisins. It is almost too pretty to eat. Almost.
Simply by looking at this salad I felt I had eaten.
The tomatoes are tangy and the bottom of the tart is sweet. The dish is meant to be sweet and sour so the balsamic vinegar brings a bit of a sour taste to it.
I must confess, before I had the Moroccan Mezze platter I had often passed by Kabira country club and assumed the food would be way too expensive. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the highest priced item on the menu I was given was 55k.
Eat here when you want to give your taste buds a new experience.
