   :CUCINA GINA 

I visited Italy with friends. As you can imagine, a big part of my time there was spent eating. Let me show you.

We landed on Cucina Gina after a few but also long minutes of walking under the Roman sun. It is perfectly located somewhere between the Spanish steps and the Trevi Fountain (both tourist sites we were visiting). However, blessedly, it happens to be on the quieter side of the things and is a welcome respite from both the heat and the crowds.

Cucina Gina was; classy! The inside was almost entirely white, dotted with some green plants and a cool atmosphere. I imagine it is the kind of place where you wouldn’t speak too loudly- but not in a bad way. And if you want to speak loudly or have a different vibe, sit aside on the street side as we did.

To eat we had;

Chicken breast with curry sauce and basmati rice and Stir fried rice with spiced squid and roasted tomato sauce.

Like pretty much all the restaurants we ate at in Rome, you are first given a basket of bread. The fruit salad in the background was amazing. And that orange slice you see is Cantaloupe, not Paw paw. It is sweeter and more interesting in flavour (sorry paw paw).

And if you don’t believe me, here it is sliced open.

And that is when I learnt that while squid may smell a bit like fish, that is where the similarities end. Squid (the little white pieces under the rice) was tender and lightly chewy but delicious nonetheless.

Cucina Gina also had this revolutionary thing they do with the beer. Once it is open, they give  you a bucket to sit it in so it remains cold! I think every single restaurant in a warm climate should adopt this (I mean you, Uganda).

NB: Our black plates are made from a black volcanic stone.

2: The black and gold ‘nets’ on the food? I asked, they explained what they were made from but I did not understand.
