In their Kitchen 3: Ivan Musoke

Curious about what the neighbours have in their kitchen? We are. That’s why we are taking a look into the kitchens of food lovers we know.

Every other month, one of them will share 5 of their favourite ingredients and tell us why they love them so. This month we feature Ivan Musoke.

Ivan works in advertising and he likes to eat. He likes to take pictures of food because, “It’s a great non-fussy” model.

1. Tea

I like for my tea to be a little different. I will add ginger or tea masala, but if I can get tea that’s already flavoured out of the pack, I’ll go for it. I also get Kericho Gold from time to time.

2. Cumin

We don’t like cumin, but a friend of mine loves to cook so all sorts of spices find their way into the kitchen. The cumin also has medicinal properties. I suspect this particular one was for rice.

3. Seasoning salt

First off, nothing beats home made fries. That said, after you’ve sampled fries from fast food joints that use seasoning, you can’t help but think, “I can get the same effect if I get the right season… seasoning, whatever. So I’ve played with that and aromat. And yeah, tried it on popcorn.

4. BBQ sauce

Beats using regular ketchup on meat… actually and on pizza. I am not sure I’ve tried it on fries, but I wouldn’t be surprised. It actually overhypes whatever you’re eating. I should sample some on posho and see.

5. Lester’s habanero chilli

This, plus ghee, plus black pepper, plus beans…. Not bad for a standalone meal. Sometimes there’s crushed avocado.
