: La pace del cervello
I visited Italy with friends. As you can imagine, a big part of my time there was spent eating. Let me show you.
La pace del cervello was one of the first places we sat down to eat at. It did a good job of welcoming us to the incredible warmth of the restaurant industry in Rome. A smile and always first, ‘Would you like some water?’
Like most restaurants in the city, there is an outdoor as well as indoor seating. On this day, the inside was packed; not least of all because people were rushing to enjoy the air conditioned interior.
What we ate!
Pasta bolognese, of course!
Pasta bolognese, here seen made with Tagliatelle pasta. At this restaurant, the meal is made with both meat balls and a bit of mince meat in the sauce. I don’t think i can ever enjoy it made another way now. When we had it at another restaurant that did not have the meat balls we felt cheated and it just wasn’t as good.
This was one of the best dishes of the entire trip.
Pasta is served with parmesan cheese on the side. You can sprinkle as liberally as you please. Other things you may be given are; olive oil, vinegar and black pepper. NEVER tomato sauce. Never, not once, did I see a bottle of tomato sauce in a restaurant in Rome.
Italy lies by the Mediterranean sea so sea food is aplenty. Coming from a landlocked country, I was eager to try.
Risotto alle vongole
The rice with clams was a beautiful array of clams, some little octopi and something that looked like prawns. Delicious really.
Pasta with Guanciale
That’s pasta with pork. If you are expecting large chunks of pork, Ugandan style, think again. This is more like thin shavings of pork and pork fat. Add to that cream and you have a beautiful and rich dish. Don’t let the seemingly small portion fool you. It is very filling.
And just so you know exactly what you are eating, La pace del cervello has a little display outside to show you what goes into your food and the different types of pastas they have.
