Butternut coffee from Buttercup Farmhouse

The story behind Butter cup Farm house’s Butternut coffee gives meaning to the phrase, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. Chantelle De Bruyn the founder wanted a healthier, safer, more nutritious, more delicious beverage that people could drink every day and sometimes several times a day-which was not coffee but was a bit like coffee. She couldn’t find one so she created coffee from butternut squash.

The latte is a combination of colours; creams, caramels, darker browns, lighter browns. I didn’t just like the look of the coffee, I also really liked the way the cup looks.

Cute, right?

Smell

We all know that signature coffee aroma. Some people say the smell alone is enough to get them out of bed in the morning. Others say you should put out roasted coffee in a house to make it feel (smell?) more welcoming. The butternut coffee smells divine. It had a nutty, almost chocolatey aroma.

Taste

It is amazing to learn that butternut coffee tastes just like…coffee. Sometimes when people make substitutes they are so far off, have a bitter aftertaste (some sugar substitutes do this) that people would rather continue with something whose dangers they are aware of. To be clear, excessive use of coffee can result in headaches, may affect your sleep, your skin and can also increase your blood pressure.

The cinnamon sprinkled on top did not hurt either. It brough a very slightly spicey flavour to the sweet drink. I’m not a big milk drinker but i really enjoyed this.

Just like with your usual coffee, you can have it stronger or otherwise, you can have milk or not but unlike your regular coffee, kids can enjoy butternut coffee too. I guess the only thing left for Buttercup farmhouse to tell us is when they will be coming to Uganda.
